A recent report from The Hanover Insurance Group warned consumers of the precautions that should be taken when minimizing fire hazards.

It is important that smoke detectors are on each floor of a dwelling, as four in 10 house fires are in buildings with no device to sense smoke. In addition, having an evacuation contingency plan is a good precaution, the company noted. Keeping an eye on open flames in the house will lessen the chance of a freak situation occurring, as well.
